Oak Ridge National Laboratory provides a number of sophisticated experimental user facilities. The facilities are shared with the scientific and technical community, providing the use of unique and specialized technology, equipment and instrumentation. Oak Ridge provides equipment in the fields of advanced computing, advanced materials, biological systems, energy science, neutron sciences, nanotechnology, manufacturing, national security etc. They conduct basic and applied research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions in key areas of science which include increasing the availability of clean, abundant energy; restoring and protecting the environment; and contributing to national security.
