The RadWatch dosimeter is a cost effective, re-readable radiation badge, worn on the wrist as a watch band or can be clipped to a uniform or attached to a lanyard. The RadLight reader is a four pound, ruggedized, field reader with e-mail capability. The dosimeter can be re-read as often as desired (in the field) and each badge contains an RFID chip so participant information can be electronically attached to travel with all dose readings that are downloaded into the RadLight reader.

The Radlight is used to measure the accumulated neutron and gamma radiation recorded by the Radwatch dosimeter. The Radwatch is worn by personnel who may be exposed to radiation from nuclear weapons, fallout or radiological contamination. RadLight Reader offers the following features: • Works exclusively with the Landauer RadWatch dosimeters • Leverages Apple iPad mini for intuitive user interface • Visual cues ensure proper orientation when RadWatch is placed in the drawer (with no knobs to turn) • When drawer is pushed in, reader automatically removes the slide from the watch base and positions each sensor to be read • Utilizes a battery or AC power

Benefits

There is no maintenance required for the RadWatch and a dosimeter can actually be cached literally for decades and will always be in a “ready to use” condition (no maintenance and no sustainability needed). The RadLight reader can also be stored for years and be pulled out in a “ready to use” condition.

In collaboration with the United States Army, Landauer Inc., has developed a new field readable, tactical dosimeter called the RadWatch for responder radiological preparedness. As of 2013, the RadWatch has been in the process of being deployed globally for all U.S. Army tactical dosimetry. FEMA has deployed it nationally to all of their Urban Search and Rescue Teams and the National Guard’s 57 CST’s have done the same. Key responder groups around the country are either in the process of placing the RadWatch within their protocols or have already done so.

The RadWatch dosimeter and RadLight readers are very simple and inexpensive tools to use and offer a “NVLAP accredited dose of record” report for all responders. This dose of record is not possible with an electronic dosimeter and fills an acknowledged gap in personnel monitoring. PRDs detect and notify a responder that there is dose in an environment and that the dose has exceeded a threshold level but they do not offer individual personnel monitoring and their results will not necessarily hold up in a court of law.

Via the RadWatch system, you can integrate individual personnel monitoring during an event with an accredited read which will hold up in court if necessary post event. Of primary importance is the ability to monitor responders during an event and be able to track their exact dose levels. Dose readings can be sent from the field, via an e-mail capability built into the reader itself to multiple command posts for live time additional oversight. Operation of the device is very simple; at any point during or after an event, the dosimeter is inserted into the reader and with the push of one button, a cumulative read is shown on the screen with a time and date stamp along with the participant identification. This data is saved in memory for storage and later use. The system has been fully ruggedized for responders and has been field tested and MILSPEC’d by the Army for accuracy, ease of use and durability. It can also be used by all type responder teams as it has been tested and approved for salt fog, immersion, EMP’s, ruggedness, etc.
