UNIKET

Category: Waste Management > Waste Treatment > Absorption
Reference # : Model No :

UNIKET is a sorbent material based on the microparticle Prussian Blue, iron-potassium hexacyanoferrate, It is chemically fixed on cellulose carrier granules, with no less than 10% sorbent content. The porous cellulose carrier in a sorbent composition provides greater access to sorption sites, which increases the capacity of the sorbent of cesium per unit weight of sorbent material and improves the kinetics of sorption. Potassium iron hexacyanoferrate can selectively remove cesium and thallium ions from aqueous solutions and, to a lesser extent, remove ions of transition and other metals. The presence of sodium and potassium ions does not reduce the capacity of the sorbent for cesium.

Under static conditions (addition of the sorbent UNIKET into the solution, and then the extraction), it is necessary to ensure gentle stirring during solution treatment to avoid mechanical disruption of the sorbent. The recommended ratio is 0.5-1.0 kg sorbent per 1000 liters of solution. The contact time for an initial activity of the cesium solution less than 5000 Bq/dm3 is 1.0 -1.5 hours. The extraction efficiency of the sorbent is 99%. In the case of activity greater than 5000Bq/dm3 contained in solution, the contact time should be increased to 2 -2.5 hours.

Under dynamic conditions, the recommended rate of filtration of the solution through the sorbent is 3-6 m/h with a sorbent thickness of at least 30 cm. The optimum ratio of height to diameter of the sorbent layer column is 2.5 - 3.5. When working in columns with a sorption layer over 1 m in thickness, it is recommended to use a mixture of sorbent UNIKET with a lighter filter material or carbon (washed until neutral) for reducing the flow resistance with a ratio from 1:0.5 to 1:1.
