The Low-Cost D&D System modifies a commercially available BROKK demolition system for remote viewing and long tether remote operation that provides a portable facility camera pod and interfaces with the Compact Remote Operator Console (TMS Tech ID 2180) to extend the applicability of the BROKK system to projects that require removal of the operator from the work area due to exposure to radiological, chemical, or industrial hazards. The modified BROKK has been integrated with the Compact Remote Operator Console to provide a true remotely operated low-cost D&D system applicable to a wide range of small D&D demolition tasks across the DOE complex.

Benefits

Cost benefit expected. Expected to significantly lower risk to personnel. Fills technology gap where currently cannot be done.

Limitations

Operation from a remote trailer is preferred due to improved safety conditions, comfort, operator isolation, and so forth.
