The Smart Tether includes a series of sensors and nodes embedded in a VideoRay tether. These nodes use orientation and pressure sensors to measure the tether shape and track the position and heading of the ROV. This data is then transmitted to the control box and displayed.

The Smart Tether system is designed to survive extreme environments and the refresh rate gives accurate information about the VideoRay submersible's position. This navigation facilitates missions that require precise operation.
