SPIDAR, is a novel search-and-rescue or reconnaissance robot system for both civil defense and military use. SPIDAR is a highly-mobile camera and sensor platform which can be used when alternate systems are unable to operate due to terrain, range, and wireless attenuation constraints, etc. In civil defense applications, the unit allows rapid deployment for use in disaster areas (earthquake, building collapse) and emergency situations (SWAT, FBI, ATF, DHS, etc.). For military operations, the system can be used to enter tunnels and sewers for assessment and analysis.
