Far Field Gamma Monitor
Category: Characterization > Monitors > Radiation Monitors
Reference # : Model No : G3620-400
The ANTECH Far Field Gamma Monitor (FFGM) is a high-resolution gamma spectroscopy system used for the assay of standard 220L and overpack 340 and 400L drums employing the ISO 19017 Open Detector geometry approach. It is designed for homogeneous drums with uniform activity distribution and density. The system features an HPGe detector with either liquid nitrogen or electromechanical cooling, graded lead detector shielding, collimated detector field of view, automated surface dose measurement, and detector filters to reduce count rate. The measurement platform includes an automated weigh-scale and drum rotation.
Benefits
Measures a wide range of sample activity from very low-level waste (VLLW) to high activity remote handled (RH) waste.
High measurement throughput and reduced assay time compared to alternative techniques.
Automatic dose measurement and detector filters to reduce detector dead time for measurement of drums and objects with a high surface dose rate.
Automatic horizontal detector distance adjustment to reduce detector dead time using 1/r² law.
Reduced counting time and increased efficiency as the entire drum or sample object is within the detector field of view.
Limitations
Assumes homogeneous distribution of activity and density in the drum.
Not suitable for inhomogeneous or heterogeneous waste with non-uniform activity distributions or matrix compositions.
Requires a large footprint due to the size of the detector and measurement platform.
Power requirements are high at 240 VAC, 1500 VA.
