Passive Neutron Slab Counter

Category: Characterization > Utilities Identification > Electromagnetic
Reference # : Model No : N2004

The ANTECH N2004 Series Passive Neutron Slab Counter is a portable and adaptable assay system designed for the detection of coincidence neutrons from the spontaneous fission of even numbered isotopes of plutonium in waste drums, boxes, crates, and other irregular items. The system consists of a rectangular high-density polyethylene moderator block clad in aluminium sheet, housing four or six 3He detector tubes and a junction box for signal amplification and high voltage distribution. The counter can be easily deployed for in-situ measurements and combined with multiple panels for full coverage of the item. It is compatible with ANTECH N2000 Series Universal Neutron Counter and N2000-2 Network Neutron Counter standalone counting electronics, providing both individual channel and combined TTL output, as well as daisy-chained HV, LV, and signal cables for expansion.

Benefits

Compatible with ANTECH N2000 Universal Neutron Counter and N2000-2 Network Neutron Counter standalone counting electronics. Individual channel output or combined TTL output and daisy-chained HV, LV, and Signal cables for expansion. Small footprint floor mounted detection module or wall mounted with brackets for ease of use and economy of space. Inspection and testing includes measurement of high voltage bias curve, discriminator and gain setting, and thermal neutron die-away time. Robust construction for operation in laboratory or plant environments. Provided with Operator positioning trolley and electronics mounting position for ease of operation.

Limitations

Detects only coincidence neutrons from the spontaneous fission of even numbered isotopes of plutonium. Requires ANTECH N2000 Series Universal Neutron Counter or N2000-2 Network Neutron Counter for data acquisition and analysis. Operating voltage is high (~1650V). Detection efficiency is relatively low (~1-1.8%).
