Nuclear Mini-Cutter 2

Category: Dismantlement > Mechanical Cutting Equipment > Mechanical Saw
Reference # : Model No :

The Nuclear Mini-Cutter 2 is a compact yet powerful cutting tool designed for nuclear safety applications, capable of handling up to 4-inch schedule 40 carbon steel pipes and, with modifications, stainless steel pipes of the same size. Weighing approximately 39 pounds, it offers a versatile design for both manual and remote cutting tasks. The tool can be delivered with multiple control configurations, including a valve-on-cylinder thumb-actuated operator valve, an in-line hydraulic valve, or an electrical control box with a solenoid system. It can be mounted on a remote arm, provided a 10,000 PSIG hydraulic system is used. For remote arm applications, it can also operate with onboard 4,000 PSIG systems when paired with a 10,000 PSIG pump.

Benefits

The Nuclear Mini-Cutter 2 provides several notable benefits for specialized cutting environments. Its ability to handle both carbon steel and, with modifications, stainless steel pipes makes it versatile for various nuclear safety tasks. The multiple control options—thumb-actuated valve, in-line hydraulic valve, and solenoid system—enhance flexibility for different operational needs. Its compatibility with remote arm mounting allows safe cutting in hazardous environments, while the ability to operate underwater for extended periods without maintenance increases its reliability in submerged radioactive environments. Additionally, its relatively lightweight design improves maneuverability compared to heavier industrial cutters.

Limitations

Its maximum cutting capacity is restricted to 4-inch carbon steel or 3-inch stainless steel pipes, limiting its use for larger diameter materials. The requirement for a 10,000 PSIG hydraulic system for remote arm operations may also present logistical challenges in certain environments. Furthermore, while capable of long-term underwater use, its maintenance-free performance could be affected by highly corrosive conditions over prolonged periods. Nonetheless, its versatility, remote operation capabilities, and nuclear safety compliance make it a valuable tool for specialized cutting tasks in restricted or hazardous environments.
