Foam Expansion in Piping

Successful foam expansion inside vertical pipes has been achieved by drilling one or more holes a few inches beneath the cut area and inserting bottle brushes. The brushes collapse when inserted through the hole and expand as soon as they're inside the pipe. These brushes form a shelf in the pipe that allows the foam that falls onto the brushes to expand upward. Recommend trying this in a mockup fashion before trying it on actual job. If the piping is horizontal the foam should secure the inner piping and prevent it from being cut as long as it is cut with a tool similar to a clam-shell cutting machine. Note: Expandable foam will discharge off-gas as it expands so be careful if the work is in confined spaces.
