Whirly Nozzle and Fixative

Solution entered: 5/5/2009    Solution updated: 5/5/2009

Whirly nozzles are commonly used at Hanford's Tank Farms to fix contamination in valve pits. A whirly is lowered into the pit and it applies fixative in all directions coating pit walls, floor and ceiling. The most common fixative used if ETGS Invisible Blue. However, other fixatives may be used. To learn more about what fixatives can be used and the ratio of fixative to water necessary for the best application, contact Tank Farm Radiological Engineer Jeff Marks at 509-373-1335 or the ALARA Center at 509-373-0656.
