Remote Technologies for Underwater

Solution entered: 5/1/2012    Solution updated: 5/1/2012

The demonstration at the Waste Management Conference was likely by International Climbing Machines (ICM). I contacted the company and they provided the following description as well as the images and documents on the underwater Climber. ICM has been involved in the development of two different Climbers: One for "in-air" and one for underwater. The in-air technology uses a vacuum chamber surrounded by a tight seal to attain adhesion. The underwater technology utilizes a water pump that pumps water through the tracks and across the belly of the Climber to attain adhesion. Other companies that you may wish to consider include Master Lee who does this sort of work for commercial power plants and Inuktun who provides remote imaging systems, including ones for underwater inspection of fuel pools.
